簡介：

我們是一所具有悠久歷史的英語課程學校，於909年就建校了，與另外二所學校( HRH The Prince of Wales as Patron)並列歐洲歷史最悠久的學校。已有1100多年威爾斯大教堂的唱詩班教學經驗。自1970年以來，它被政府認可為專門的音樂學校 – 唯一一家提供以合理費用學習專業先修的音樂課在最“適當”的音樂專門學院得到完整的學術課程和合作課程。 除了數學第二專業，今天，威爾斯招收的學生的年齡在3-18歳的一般學生或寄宿生，共有710名學生 –有565中學生和170小學生 – 其中約15％是國際生；來自25個國家。

Description

Founded in 909AD, with HRH The Prince of Wales as Patron, Wells Cathedral School is one of the oldest schools in Europe. For over 1,100 years it has
educated the choristers of Wells Cathedral and since 1970 it has been recognised by the Government as a specialist music school – the only one offering a pre-professional level of music tuition within a ‘proper’ school offering a full academic curriculum and co-curriculum. In addition to a second specialism in mathematics, today, Wells is a thriving age 3-18+ co-educational day and boarding through school with 710 students on its roll – 565 Senior School and 170 Junior School – around 15% of whom are international students from over 25 different countries.

Application process

UKiset test or Wells’ own academic entrance tests; certified copies of last two school reports; and interview either in person or by e.g. Skype. For potential specialist musicians, audition – in person or by video clip or DVD.

English as second language

Led by Head of English as an Additional Language (EAL) with a program tailored to each student. Cambridge English, IELTS and CEFR testing offered.

Accommodation

Family-style school boarding houses with international students integrated with domestic students. No third-party home-stays, although some international students are day students living locally with their parents.

Curriculum

Based on English National Curriculum culminating in GCSEs and A-levels.

Sports

All major team sports including cricket, field hockey, netball, rugby, soccer and tennis. Also badminton, basketball and volleyball. Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award offer adventurous outdoor activities (e.g. abseiling, rock climbing, sailing, swimming, etc) as part of a wide range of ECAs with countless clubs and societies.

Student support

All students have an academic tutor with whom they meet twice weekly. Learning Support Centre offers support to students with mild specific learning difficulties e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.

Adcote is one of the friendliest and most successful girls’ schools in England. There is a chaplain who is available should the girls want time with her and she also runs sessions at break and lunch. Career and academic support is ongoing and additional classes are available for students who need support in their university applications, Oxbridge assessments and interviews.

Features of the local area

Shrewsbury is a beautiful historic and medieval market town, located right in the heart of England, about an hour from Manchester and two hours from London (airport transfers are included). The school is in a semi-rural and beautiful setting, with grounds the girls are free to roam around. The town of Shrewsbury is a popular weekend destination for shopping trips and the school minibus makes regular stops there.

DescriptionMyddelton College provides a unique blend of the best of the British education system in the heart of the Welsh countryside. Student supportOur 1:4 student-teacher ratio enables our dedicated teachers to deliver tailored learning for pupils of all academic abilities and permitting every individual to find the opportunity to excel. Our researcher in residence works closely with sixth form students throughout the process of career decisions, choosing and applying to a university. As a Microsoft Showcase School, every student and teacher is trained in the use of modern technology in the classroom, each child receives a surface, and they are integrated fully into the lessons. Our heads of house and head of student services make sure the students are integrated well and have a point of contact in case of any problem. All students meet regularly with our highly approachable team. Each boarder is registered with the local doctor and is accompanied on doctor visits by a house parent.
